This position is located at the California State Office within the Division of Natural Resources. The National Landscape Conservation (NLC) Program Lead serves as the statewide coordinator for public lands managed under the NLC System and provides oversight for other special designations to include, but not limited to, Wilderness programs and Areas of Critical Environment Concern (ACEC). Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Physical Demands: The position is largely sedentary requiring the usual amount of sitting and movement associated with normal office routine. Occasional field work requires the physical ability to traverse rough terrain by foot for several miles, backpack in remote areas for several days, ride for long periods in cross-country vehicles or other means of transportation, and stamina to accommodate extreme climatic conditions. Field travel may include the use of regular passenger vehicles, off-road vehicles including all-terrain vehicles, bicycles, horses, and boats. Incumbent must be able to operate a four-wheel drive motorized vehicle safely and exercise standard field safety protocol in order to accomplish some of the required travel. Field travel includes strenuous hiking over rough terrain under difficult conditions during weather extremes. Camping in primitive conditions may periodically be required.
Work Environment: This position is physically located in an office setting with close proximity to a number of other professionals, and the incumbent must tolerate an average amount of conversation, telephone, computer, and other similar office background noise. Office quarters, while not generous, are adequate; they are located in a modern office building and tend to the "open space" arrangement. Field conditions are very harsh and include the full range of topographic conditions. On-the-ground task assignments require frequent travel by foot over rough terrain, vehicles and aircraft. The outdoor environment varies from arid deserts to forests and the climate will vary from frequently windy periods to dead calm and temperatures ranging from 0 degrees to 115 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods at a given temperature.
If selected for this position, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 within 30 days of reporting to duty. You will be required to provide this information annually.
Specialized Experience Requirements:
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
To qualify for the GS-12: Applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience may include: experience as an Outdoor Recreation Planner implementing guidelines, standards and procedures for a recreation program. Conducts analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interest and needs, and makes recommendations for the preparation of plans. Implements major resource management plans, coordinates local monitoring and environmental review regarding public lands and private development proposals and master plans. Monitors program operations and assists or provides input on budgetary directives.
To qualify for the GS-13: Applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience may include: experience as a Senior Outdoor Recreation Planner developing guidelines, standards, and procedures for a recreation program. Conducts analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interest and needs, and makes recommendations for the preparation pf plans. Implements major resource management plans, coordinate local monitoring and environmental review regarding public lands and private development proposals and master plans. Monitors program operations and assists or prepares budgetary directives.
Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at either grade level.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
