SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Applicant must have experience making final medical determinations of disability at the initial, reconsideration, and/or continuing disability review level. This experience must be from claims adjudication in a state disability determination services (DDS), or as a disability examiner in a Payment Service Center (PSC) or Disability Processing Unit (DPU).
At the full performance level, the incumbent serves as an authoritative specialist and program expert in the adjudication of Social Security disability and non-disability cases on the disability staff of the Regional Office (RO) or Program Service Centers (PSC). Handles the full range of disability determination workload in the Agency, as assigned from field offices, PSCs, Office of Central Operations (OCO) and as mutually agreed from Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) and state Disability Determination Services (DDSs). Acts as the technical resource for questions from DDS, Payment Center Operations (PCO) and field on all disability related issues which include complex cases such as Expedited Reinstatement cases and Special Disability Workload (SDW) cases, in addition to making determinations and processing various aspects of these complex cases.
GS-12: Substitution of education is not applicable at this grade level.
Combining Education and Experience: Experience and education as described above may be combined to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Experience and education will be computed as percentages of the overall requirements and must equal to 100 percent when combined. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for GS-11 positions.
