As a Student Trainee (Program Support), you will:
- Use computer software such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet to perform elementary office automation tasks such as entering and retrieving data into or from existing spreadsheets and producing various standardized documents using established formats.
- Type letters, reports, memoranda, etc., which include technical terms. The incumbent of this position also ensures that work products have been thoroughly proofread and are error-free.
- Review outgoing correspondence and reports for format, grammar, typographical accuracy, conformance with established procedures, and confirms that all required background information is attached.
- Research reports and file documents to provide information necessary for CPD Representatives and the CPD Director to rate competitive applications such as for the McKinney Homeless and HOPWA Programs, and for renewal of McKinney projects. Ensures grant packages are properly prepared.

This position is located in the Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD). CPD seeks to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. The primary means toward this end is the development of partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector, including for-profit and non-profit organizations.

You may qualify with one year of general experience. General experience for this position is defined as:
- One full year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR Education: For the Pathways Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. (This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.)
OR Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the education requirement must equal at least 100 percent. (For example: the completion of 50% requirements for an Associates degree and 6 months of general experience.)
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Pathways Student Internship Program Education Requirement:
A. Must be a current student at an accredited high school (public or private) or in a home-school program*; college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, or trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled) pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
*Secondary home-school curricula must be recognized by the State or local government oversight agency.
B. You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship. If you do not maintain eligibility and enrollment, you are ineligible for this program. C. Every semester, you must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
