    The candidate will lead experimental efforts aimed at developing the platform of trapped-ion crystals in a Penning trap for quantum information processing and quantum sensing.  Specifically, work will include planning and implementing protocols for increasing the complexity of quantum simulation in the Penning trap platform.  Results will be benchmarked through collaborative work with theoretical physicists. Routine tasks for this position include working with dye and solid-state lasers, ultraviolet laser sources, NMR superconducting magnets, ultra-high vacuum technology and sophisticated experimental control.  Completed work will be published in the open literature and reported at professional meetings.
