    About the Position: The main office of the Garrison Project is located in Riverdale, ND (population approx. 300) which is located on the bluffs overlooking beautiful Lake Sakakawea. Lake Sakakawea is 160 miles long, and was created by construction of Garrison Dam on the Missouri River. Residents and visitors take advantage of outstanding fishing, hunting and boating opportunities. Housing costs have increased the past 8 years due to the oil boom in western North Dakota.

    • Performs developmental duties of archeological work requiring knowledge of professional archeological principles, theories, concepts methods and techniques. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
    • Assist in collecting and identifying archeological information from a variety of sources in accordance with specific instructions and established procedures.
    • Assist in the planning and conducting of cultural resource investigations including records and literature searches, archival studies, and field work consisting of reconnaissance and surveys, test excavations, and data recovery excavations.
    • Assist in reviewing and identifying properties that are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
    • Assist senior staff in consulting with project managers, State Historic Preservation Officers, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation by observing methods and procedures to be used.
