The purpose of this position is to support the Treasury Department’s role as the Sector Specific Agency for the Financial Services Sector, under Presidential Policy Directive 21, to strengthen the security and resilience of its critical infrastructure against both physical and cyber threats.
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-15. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Provide cybersecurity infrastructure protection leadership and expert technical advice on developing and implementing policies, programs, and procedures to ensure the security and reliability of information systems throughout the sector.
- Coordinate interagency and cross-sector working groups to advance Treasury cybersecurity goals and objectives with regard to protection of the nation’s financial services sector.
- Provide technical guidance and analysis on cybersecurity matters to inform leadership decision making by federal and private-sector senior officials as they pertain to the financial services sector.
- Develop internal goals, objectives, priorities, and plans to advance OCCIP's role in the Treasury’s cyber mission with regard to cyber/ critical infrastructure protection of the nation’s financial services sector.

Specialized Experience for the 15 level: To be qualified for this position at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes performing work with significant scope/impact to promote critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, resilience, and/or reduction of operational risk within the financial services sector, one its sub-sectors, or at a critical financial institution.
Examples of such experience could include:
Leading activities that support critical infrastructure security and resilience, promote public-private partnerships, and work to engage the independent regulatory community with executive branch agencies; OR
Planning and leading work with financial sector IT, cybersecurity experts, technology developers and/or the R&D community to study, analyze, and describe risks for emerging technologies, recommend any appropriate mitigating security measures, or other measures to minimize risk; OR
Developing and interpreting cybersecurity policy, guidance, or regulation, with significant scope and impact (e.g., federal, US national, or multinational) on the financial services sector; OR
Studying technologies, systems, networks, functions, sub-systems, etc., in the financial services sector to identify new vulnerabilities (security, resilience, operational risk) and recommend any appropriate mitigating security measures; OR
Analyzing key financial institutions or processes to understand their security and interdependence vulnerabilities, and developing proposed mitigation strategies.
Specialized Experience for the 14 level: To be qualified for this position at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes identifying cybersecurity threats and providing technical guidance on cybersecurity matters; as well as interpreting and making recommendations on cybersecurity policies and leading IT related projects.
Examples of such experience could include:
Carrying out activities that support critical infrastructure security and resilience, promote public-private partnerships, and work to engage the independent regulatory community with executive branch agencies; OR
Working with financial sector IT, cybersecurity experts, technology developers and/or the R&D community to study, analyze, and describe risks for emerging technologies, recommend any appropriate mitigating security measures, or other measures to minimize risk; OR
With supervisors general direction, proposing and drafting cybersecurity policy, guidance, or regulation interpretation, with major scope and impact (e.g., federal, US national, or multinational) for the financial services sector; OR
Studying technologies, systems, and functions in the financial sector to identify new vulnerabilities and recommend any appropriate mitigating security measures; OR
Analyzing security of critical financial institutions or processes to assess risk and develop proposed mitigation strategies.
