    Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Detroit Field Office, located in Detroit, MI; Chicago Field Office, located in Chicago, IL; and Buffalo Field Office, located in Buffalo, NY.

    Salary: Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection.

    Responsibilities

    Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. This position starts at a salary of $107,807.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $140,146.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $140,146 (GS-14, Step 10). Apply for this exciting opportunity to strengthen Homeland Security by providing advice and consulting on programs that involve law enforcement activities related to the import and export of agriculture, commodities and baggage entering and/or exiting the United States.

    In this position you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. Typical work assignments include:

    • Serving as an expert and technical consultant in the areas of inspection, intelligence, analysis, examination and law enforcement activities related to the importation of agricultural/commercial commodities and conveyances at a port of entry.
    • Gathering and analyzing information from a variety of sources to identify and target high-risk shipments, conveyances and passenger/flight risk.
    • Overseeing the overall planning, direction, and execution of a program or several program segments
    • Identifying and resolving issues where no policy exists and taking innovative actions to address new needs and issues.
