The Student Trainee participates as an apprentice with higher-graded staff to acquire skill and techniques in addressing and monitoring larger and more complex program applications performing the following duties:
To become a Pathways Intern, the incumbent must meet the below education requirement:
GS-3 Completion of I full academic year of post-high school study.
GS-4 Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
GS-5 Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree
An individual participating in the Student Trainee Program who otherwise meets the program requirements for conversion (i.e., work hours, satisfactory performance, educational requirements, training completed, etc.) may be converted to a position with an established career ladder, when that career ladder has been established in the announcement for which they were selected.
Pathways Internship Eligibility:
**Students graduating in the Summer 2020 Term and are not enrolled for a new degree seeking Program, or Certificate Program after graduation and/or not enrolled to attend the Fall 2020 Term will be rated ineligible for this position.
1) Be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full or half-time basis.
2) Maintain good academic standing of at least a 2.5 GPA (cumulative) for an undergraduate degree program and 3.0 GPA for a professional master's degree program.

CONVERSION REQUIREMENTS
Interns can be non-competitively converted to a permanent or term position within HHS upon successful completion of Pathways Program requirements. However, non-competitive conversion or placement in not guaranteed, which is based on various factors such as budget, organizational needs, student performance, education, etc.
Eligibility for conversion to competitive service:
- Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program;
- Complete the degree in an accredited college or university;
- Meet OPM's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted;
- Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and;
- Perform the job successfully as documented through performance evaluations, an/or completion of an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
