    Responsibilities

    This Vacancy is using the Direct-Hire authority to recruit for positions for which there is a critical hiring need. Using the Office of Personnel Management’s approved government-wide direct hire authorities, agencies may appoint candidates directly to jobs, without regard to the provision of Title 5 U.S.C 3309 through 3318, for which OPM determines that there is a severe shortage of candidates or a critical hiring need.

    The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the principal advisor to the Under Secretary and Director on the application of information technology (IT) to support and improve the Agency’s business processes. The Office of Organizational Policy and Governance (OPG) provides the management and oversight of enterprise Information Technology (IT) strategies, guidance, policies, and agency-wide cybersecurity. This position is located under the Cybersecurity Division (CD) that is responsible for all aspects of USPTO Information Technology (IT) security. This team provides services, which support implementation and continuous monitoring for compliance with IT security policies, Federal Information Processing Standards, and requirements for all information technology used in support of the USPTO.

    As a IT Cybersecurity Specialist (INFOSEC) you will be responsible for..

    • Coordinating with system owners and managers to enable implementation of security controls.
    • Assisting in anticipating, identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and minimizing risks associated with IT system vulnerabilities.
    • Conducting Privacy Threshold Analyses, Privacy Impact Assessments, and assessing selected privacy controls for information systems.
    • Ensuring the integration of security in IT programs and services.
    • Reviewing solutions to mitigate security concerns and issues.
    • Assessing planned system changes for security impacts.
    • Providing authoritative advice in staff meetings on security requirements for disaster recovery, business continuity, operating systems security, and developing and implementing security guidelines.
