    This position is located in the Federal Communications Commission, Enforcement Bureau, Equipment Development Group (EDG), Powder Springs, GA.

    Relocation expenses will not be paid.

    Responsibilities

    The primary responsibilities of this position are the design and implementation of software used in fixed and mobile radio direction finding equipment and other application specific equipment designed at EDG; documentation of software systems including the preparation of detailed instruction manuals, user guides, videos, and web publications; maintenance and expansion of existing software systems; rapid application development of software extensions in response to the changing operational needs of the Field; and interfacing with other FCC staff as a core member of a multi-disciplined engineering team.

    The incumbent designs, plans, and constructs complete complex, state-of-the-art software systems used for locating radio signals which could involve matters of safety of life.  Uses rapid application development environments such as Delphi to quickly prototype applications and later enhance them through the process of re-factorization and profiling. Uses integrated development environments for the construction of Microsoft Windows based applications, and debugs software.

    Responsible for preparing complete documentation and instructions for engineering design, production, installation, operation and maintenance of the software used in equipment constructed by EDG, including sketches, flow charts, step-by-step procedures, required training, troubleshooting methods, bug lists, and schedules. Writes instruction manuals, how-to guides, and publishes instructional videos on the use of software systems.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Travel to field offices, and other locations for the purpose of performing the installation, upgrade, maintenance, or repair of software systems.
