This position has been identified as one of the hybrid title 38 occupations reported among the occupations with the largest staffing shortages and, therefore, under 38 U.S.C. § 7412 waives the requirement to apply Veterans' preference to external applicants for appointments made during the FY 2020.
This employee is a fully functional DRT and performs computerized tomography (CT) axial and/or 3-D reconstruction scans utilizing both single and multi slice scanners Assures supplies, contrast media and other materials are set up and readily available prior to the scan. Prior to scanning incumbent selects and sets protocols for each individualized patient examination. Monitors, observes and assists patients.
The incumbent independently performs routine to moderately complex radiographic and computed tomography (CT) examinations that may require utilization of contrast materials and sterile techniques. CT procedural examinations include routine and advanced neurological and angiographic studies of the head, neck, spine, chest, abdominal systems and extremities. General radiographic examinations include routine x-rays of the skull, chest, pelvis, spine, abdomen, extremities and fluoroscopic procedures. The incumbent evaluates critical and emergency procedures and prioritizes them to accommodate the situation. The examinations are achieved by using x-ray equipment such as digital radiography (DR), computed radiography (CR), computed tomography (CT), general radiography (conventional/analog), fluoroscopy, portable radiographic and other devices for the purpose of producing high quality diagnostic images to provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment of identified abnormalities. The amount of time spent in each modality will be contingent upon the needs of the department. The incumbent will work a minimum of 30% in Computed Tomography and as much as 100%. The incumbent will work between 1-70% in General Radiography.
Work Schedule: Generally Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. May be required to work some evenings, weekends and/or holidays to provide coverage as needed for patient care.
