Provides administrative and semi- technical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors, and Administrative Officer by utilizing advanced automation system tools relevant in the Safety Assurance System environment which includes, but is not limited to obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files. The incumbent works under the general supervision of a Front Line Manager.
Processes FAA-issued airman certificates such as an FAA designated representative, mechanics, repairmen, and flight engineers, and pilots. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, aerobatic competency, etc. Processes FAA-issued operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correction, if required.
Researches, writes, and types non-technical and routine technical correspondence. Assists in composing complex technical correspondence. Maintains, reviews, and revises form letters at the request of the aviation safety inspectors in accordance with the FAA branding and writing guidelines and procedures.
Responsible for assigned technical and administrative files such as certificated operator and designee case files in accordance with agency directives. Determines need for new files, initiates action to create files, prepares file folders, dividers, and labels. Maintains technical/administrative library which includes orders, notices, FARs, Master Minimum Equipment Lists (MMELs), aircraft technical manuals and advisory circulars, etc. Assures that charts and office logs are kept current. Determines disposition of and deletes obsolete material or records in accordance with established guidelines.
Receives incoming telephone calls, responds to technical inquiries, and appropriately directs all other incoming calls. Interacts with the other FAA offices, and the public (both domestic and foreign, when applicable). Assists visitors, determines needs, and provides information or refers appropriately.
Reports assessment response observations into the Safety Assurance System (SAS) database Assembles and enters information into various automated programs (such as the Enhanced Flight Standards Automated System (eFSAS) Program Tracking and Reporting Subsystem (PTRS), Operations Specifications Subsystems (OPSS), Enhanced Vital Information Data (eVID), and Enforcement Information System (EIS) and retrieves, prints, and reviews output. Retrieves data concerning airmen records, certificates, violation histories and aircraft registrations from the National Data Base (NDB) and EIS database system. Using automated systems, backs-up and archives automated files to external and hard drives, screens databases, and determines disposition, disposition files in accordance with records management policy. Transmits data electronically.
Surveys unit to which assigned in order to ensure adherence to administrative procedures that are outlined in agency directives. Examines current procedures and practices and recommends or implements changes.
Manages cuff records in Regis or equivalent management system providing tracking and validation support of funds for employee travel in direct support of the administrative officer, program analyst, and management.
Works under the general supervision in the assigned area of responsibility. Performs tasks independently using a general understanding of excepted outcomes and the scope of the assignments, and draws upon experience and the advice of others in resolving more difficult problems.
To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52-weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-6/FV-D (FG-5/6) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:
