    The Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service, Associate Chief Counsel (Employee Benefits, Exempt Organizations and Employment Taxes)Washington D.C. provides legal advice and litigation support services on tax matters involving employee plans, exempt organizations, employment tax, executive compensation, health and welfare benefits, and certain federal, state, local and Indian Tribal government issues to a wide variety of internal and external customers and clients.

    WHAT DOES A MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT DO? As a Management Assistant, you will gain experience with computer systems and databases - entering, retrieving and organizing information and documents and assist with all the support activities perform in a legal office.

    WHAT IS THE PATHWAYS PROGRAM? The Treasury's Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government.

    Following the completion of program requirements, selectees may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment. All conversion requirements will be identified in the Participant Agreement. Program requirements include but are not limited to:

    • Successful completion of at least 1-year of continuous service;
    • Completion of at least 40 hours of interactive training;
    • Demonstration of successful job performance; and
    • Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate may be converted.

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-05 level. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position.

    • Creates and/or maintains various records of organizational and operational charts, function statements, and staff levels. Maintains records of management analysis data and reports, provides standard explanation of procedures and requirements, identifies clear errors in data, and compiles management data into prescribed formats.
    • Recognizes and extracts pertinent information from various sources (e.g., manual logs and/or software programs); prepares, verifies and maintains statistical data relating to legal case workload and staffing for historical and forecasting analysis purposes, corrects obvious mathematical errors, and assists the staff in preparing regular and ad hoc studies for assigned office.
    • Prepares, produces and assembles a variety of written documents utilizing various software applications in support of litigation and other administrative functions. Presents correspondence for review in proper format and grammar.
    • Receives visitors and telephone calls. Receives and reviews mail. Arranges meetings including finding mutually satisfactory times, reserving meeting rooms, notifying participants and preparing reports when requested.
    • Answers inquiries from audit managers, program managers and personnel concerning legal case status and basic program review procedures.
