The primary duties of the position will focus on performing non-supervisory technical construction/maintenance work These duties are related to the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures. The position performs contract inspections, project compliance, maintenance inspections, construction and repair of facilities, and motor vehicle operation. The position will also focus on performing non-supervisory construction/maintenance work involved in the maintenance and repair of field office buildings, campgrounds, historic structures, roads, earthen tanks (ponds), and utilities as well as assisting in the closure of abandoned mine sites which will include the welding of bat grates and gates. The incumbent will work closely with program specialists and is expected to provide support on projects across the Gila District Office and statewide as requested.
Physical Effort: Requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping and pulling. Climbing and working in cramped or uncomfortable positions; heavy lifting of materials frequently required. Must have full range of upper and lower extremities. Moderate effort required in operating vehicles and tools of the trade. Stamina, dexterity, and perseverance required in all aspects of incumbent duties.
Working Conditions: Work is predominantly outside in all kinds of weather. Must work under stress and strain, in dust, dirt, mud and water. Incumbent may be exposed to occupational injuries, such as; cuts, scrapes, and dust from sawing materials, as well as other potential hazards, working with heavy machinery, saws, welders, masonry and electrical equipment while performing duties in this position.

WG-08: At this level, Maintenance Worker duties performed may include all of the above duties but at a greater level of difficulty and independence. In addition work assignments may include the performance of visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for and the performance of repair work on a level of difficulty and responsibility of trades such as electrical, complex cement, masonry, air conditioning, and heating. Duties may also include operating dump trucks, trailers, backhoes and tractors.
A current valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required.
