    The program duration is one year. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency's discretion, the appointee may be converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service.

    Responsibilities

    Your application package may be shared with other selecting officials at NIST with opportunities like the one you are applying to. Additional selections may be made through this vacancy. 

    Maintain and operate a laboratory that provides calibrations of customer vacuum measurement equipment using standardized processes documented within a quality system.  Maintain quality system documentation to ensure currency.  Validate measurements through comparisons with other national metrology laboratories.  Provide consultations to customers on vacuum calibration needs.  Recommend improvements to calibration services that increase measurement accuracy, simplify procedures, or address new customer needs.  Perform research to advance vacuum measurement science as a member of a team. 

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Travel might be required to attend scientific/technical conference or workshops to give a presentation or provide training. Travel might also be required to calibration laboratories to provide assements of quality systems.
