    The Deputy Vice President, Mission Support Services, serves as a key advisor to the Vice President on all aspects of Federal Aviation Administration activities involving air traffic program policy and support activities and in areas that are essential to the mission of the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) and Mission Support Services. The Deputy Vice President, Mission Support Services oversees and has line authority over five multi-layered Directorates and staff offices including three service centers. The staff consists of 1,300 to 1,400 highly technical specialized positions, including three (3) Executives and two (2) L Band Directors.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Oversees aeronautical information management; air traffic control procedures; operational concepts, validation and requirements; air traffic environmental policy; air traffic rules, policies and procedures for airspace structure, design and allocation;

    • Directs the analysis of the effects of proposed permanent and temporary construction on the navigable airspace;

    • Supports community involvement for airspace projects;

    • Establishes policies, procedures and enhanced automation systems essential to the ATO’s ability to provide services in an increasingly complex National Airspace System (NAS) that include an expanding commercial space industry;

    • Manages complex planning and business initiatives and executes organizational initiatives according to the ATO business plans and budget allocations; and

    • Formulates and administers a budget of $436 million ensuring that business and administrative processes, budget activities and performance expectations are aligned and consistent across the service unit and support the ATO mission.
