    This position is located within the VA Northwest Health Network Optical Fabrication Laboratory at the VA Medical Center in Boise, ID. The Prescription Eyeglass Maker Supervisor serves as the Front-Line Supervisor overseeing the daily operations of the optical lab, with a focus on the fabrication of eyeglass lenses.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervises the fabrication of eyeglasses, using state-of-the-art Optical Lab equipment
    • Works with state-of-the-art equipment used to fabricate lens, frames, etc., and remains abreast of the latest technologies available
    • Evaluates all visual ware for conformity to prescription, technical quality, appropriateness and conformity to policy requirements
    • Fabricates and ensures technical accuracy of eyewear
    • Assists in establishing and carrying out program goals and objectives
    • Measures, fabricates, fits, and dispenses visual devices
    • Maintains patient/customer data on computer systems
    • Develops, implements, evaluates, and improves processes to increase efficiency and productivity of the program
    • Plans and establishes work schedules, deadlines, and standards for acceptable work, tracks progress and quality of performance
    • Conducts employee performance reviews/evaluations
    • Participates in the recruitment and selection process, promotions, reassignments and awards
    • Manages and develops annual training programs
    • Addresses and resolves minor employee complaints
    • Independently develops and maintains quality controls concerning all aspects of the Optical Fabrication Laboratory, to include patient satisfaction, quality of work, inventory, timeliness, and delivery
    • Performs preventative maintenance on all Optical Laboratory equipment
    • Fixes, repairs, and/or adjusts eyewear for patients, clinics, and/or dispensing sites
    • Troubleshoots optical difficulties concerning eyewear with the patients, clinics, and/or dispensing sites
    • Performs other related duties as assigned

    Work Schedule: 6:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday
