    Summary

    PATHWAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school.

    The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements.  It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals.

    This position is part of the Pathways Internship Program and is located at the Central Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

    Incumbent provides administrative support to the Human Resources Office. Work assignments will provide the incumbent with the opportunity to learn about the overall mission, functions and organization of the BOP. Increasingly difficult assignments will require the student to apply analytical skills, problem solving, coordination, written and oral communication skills. Work assignments will be designed to develop broader and more in-depth knowledge and skill to perform higher-level assignments.

    The incumbent may assist the Personnel Director, Branch Chief, Section Chief, Human Resource Administrator, Human Resource Manager, Assistant Human Resource Manager, and Human Resource Specialists in programs, such as external staffing and recruitment, internal merit promotion, performance appraisal administration, personnel security, incentive awards, benefits and retirement, training, data entry, Senior Executive Service program, and processing various personnel and payroll documents. In addition, filing and other clerical duties may be assigned. Special projects may be assigned as necessary.
