Hematology
The RN assigned to the Hematology subspecialty service performs in assigned clinical, administrative and coordinating capacities and follows established guidelines to provide and coordinate health care for patients served by the Hematology subspecialty clinics. The nurse participates in the facilitation of access to Hematology care in the assessment of new patients, devising care plans, direct delivery of care and coordinating the care of others. The nurse provides education for patients and their families as relates to hematology and oncology disease processes and care. The nurse administers parental chemotherapy, biotherapy, and hormonal therapy as well as the supportive infusions therapy of drugs and blood products.
The RN is responsible for the maintenance of vascular access devices and for the use of ambulatory infusion pumps. Care activities include ordering labs, consults, and scheduling appointments. The nurse plays a central role in pain and symptom management, palliative care and end of life care by assessing and counseling patients and collaborating with other professions including physicians, pharmacists, social workers and other nurses. The nurse provides both team and disease based case management to patients. The nurse carries out preventive health screening including patient education, performing health screening, and providing vaccinations. The RN plays a key role in ensuring safe and optimal care is provided, especially as it realties to patients receiving procedures. The incumbent is engaged in clinic efficiency management, including implementation of advanced clinic access principles and is responsible for ongoing evaluation and implementation of clinic efficiency enhancement (e.g. technology, scheduling, clinic operational practices) in collaboration with specialty clinic team members and physicians.
Nrses must demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care to the adult and geriatric population through collaborative strategies and in compliance with either the Michigan or Ohio Nurse Practice Acts, in addition to Medical Center and Departmental standards. The incumbent provides direct nursing care to individual and groups of patients under the guidance and direction of the Nurse Manager (and Assistant Nurse Manager) and assists with the direction and supervision of other assigned clinical and/or clerical staff.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday (8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.)
