    The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) is responsible for the management and oversight of the enterprise IT architecture, evaluating emerging technologies and applying these emerging technologies to USPTO’s changing business needs and strategic direction. The Enterprise Data Architecture Division (EDAD) within OCTO develops and manages the agency-wide data architecture program, which covers data modeling and database design, eXtensible Markup Language (XML), data quality initiatives, and metadata management.

    This position serves as a skilled Data Architect in the EDAD, and is a technical specialist in either eXtensible Markup Language (XML), Data Modeling and Database Design, or Data Quality. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for the following:

    • Coordinating and conducting data modeling in support of automated information systems development and maintenance.
    • Developing data element structure designs, working with multiple resources to achieve commonly defined and shareable data. Proposes data elements for standardization.
    • Facilitating baseline data quality assessments on the migration of data and establishing data profiling and monitoring.
    • Performing data redundancy analysis, providing results to the business users, and creating production database design discrepancy reports.
    • Providing technical expertise, solution, and products in data quality management area.
    • Providing a variety of advisory services (design, analysis, and review) and/or technical guidance to individual employees on technical data architecture and data management matters.
