    Responsibilities

    This position is located at the Mescalero Service Unit, Mescalero, New Mexico. The incumbent provides registration and eligibility services which are the key point of interaction with patients to obtain the demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, contract health services, and private/commercial insurance.

    • Receives telephone calls and takes messages for staff or directs caller to appropriate staff member.
    • Greets and interviews patients to obtain/verify pertinent patient registration information and assists patient in updating the medical history information.
    • Responsible for making appointments, checking in patients, routing patient information to the nurses.
    • Prepare, print and mail appointment reminders to patients.
    • Assists the patient in completing new or updated forms.
    • Determines eligibility of patients seeking health care.
    • Identifies patients whose health benefits are subject to prior approval to determine the extent of health care for both inpatient and outpatient.
    • Maintains, key-enters, updates, and verifies all alternate resource data necessary for patient registration and for accurate billing.
    • Makes corrections as necessary to improve the patient registration system.
