    The Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System is recruiting for an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) for the Lincoln Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The AMSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary care delivery model, performs scheduling duties, customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients.

    Responsibilities

    Major duties include but are not limited to:

    • Screens/receives phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determines the nature of requests and provides the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes
    • Participates in required meetings/huddles where patient care planning and management occur
    • Coordinates administrative services for veterans, family members, caregivers, general public, administrative and clinical staff to insure continuity of inpatient and outpatient care
    • Follows clinical processes to address or handoff medical records when received
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all clinical and administrative staff in determining priorities of activities in support of direct patient care
    • Interprets and applies a complex body of pertinent laws, regulations, directives and policies that relate to the administration of VA Healthcare Benefits
    • Requires acknowledgement and understanding of frequent changes to Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives, regulations and local policies and constant coordination to ensure compliance and standardization associated with Advanced Clinic Access principles
    • Generates patient workload reports for validation and monitors activity in clinical areas to assure consistent and accurate reporting
    • Interprets and communicates requirements of VHA Scheduling Directives
    • Serves as a technical advisor and liaison with contacts at all levels
    • Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professional staff on complex cases using sound interpersonal skills
    • Assists with coordinating travel arrangements for veterans
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm
