    Summary

    A Medical Technologist (MT) carries out the day-to-day operations in the laboratory. This would include routine testing, quality control, routine maintenance of instrumentation and troubleshooting. The MT develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs a broad range of advanced and complex laboratory procedures, recognizes deviation from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
    • Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis, taking into account physiologic processes and requirements.
    • Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.
    • Identifies malfunctions, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Performs and documents quality assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvements.
    • Adheres to practices and regulations governing bio-safety and security in the workplace.
    • Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors which influence test results.
    • Evaluates and implements new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of equipment, method comparison, and establishment of reference intervals using statistical methods and theoretical knowledge.
    • Communicates effectively and courteously.
    • Organizes work and sets priorities to meet deadlines.
    • Independently processes, performs testing, and reports results for limited procedures in microbiology and molecular microbiology without supervision.

    Work Schedule: Midnight to 8:30am or 3:30pm to Midnight with rotating weekends and holidays as assigned by the supervisor.

    This announcement establishes a standing register of eligible applicants to be considered for permanent full-time appointments.
