The primary purpose of this position is to manage the duties in an atmosphere which often involve a conflict between the goals of economic development and environmental protection.
- Preparing written evaluations or assignments of all agency program involvements in order to determine the significance of their environmental impacts.
- Researching and applying principles from a wide variety of scientific, economic and engineering disciplines to make substantive findings.
- Collaborating with agency planning staff and recipients of planning grants for the purpose of assisting them to incorporate environmental considerations and factors into the planning process.
- Coordinating and overseeing the agency's environmental program with the Regional Director of the regional offices.

QualificationsApplicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience Qualification requirements as noted below.
GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing the following duties:
- Applying environmental laws and regulations to the approval or modification of program activities based off of anticipated environmental impacts and economic benefits
- Researching and analyzing data in multiple academic fields to define and resolve complex environmental policy issues
- Coordinating with multiple academic, governmental and private sector environmental experts to avoid adverse environmental impacts of project programs
- Consulting on environmental litigation matters
NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
