    Responsibilities

    This position is located in the Washington Office (WO) and reports to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Chief of Public Affairs. Although the position reports to the BLM Headquarters Division of Public Affairs, the duty station is located in Salt Lake City, UT.

    As the Branch Chief within the Headquarters Division of Public Affairs, you will operate in the following capacities:

    • Prepares and supervises the preparation of press and informational releases for distribution to news media and to the public, including articles, op-eds, content for social media or feature items on both technical and non-technical subjects; planning and leadership in developing and executing special projects to meet particular public information, education, and cooperative relations needs, including arrangements for exhibits, speakers, film screenings, field trips, etc. Prepares speeches and public statements for the Director, Deputy Director and key staff personnel.

    • Advises and works with all levels of BLM staff, including senior communications management on issues related to the strategic use of new and social media for effective communications and engagement with the general public and specific targeted audiences. Manages agency use of social media tools to establish and maintain effective relationships with webs, print, and broadcast media and national organizations interested in the multiple use, recreational, and conservation aspects of the BLM’s programs.

    • Works in coordination with WO 600 Communications leadership, national programs, and state and program communications staff to respond to public inquiries on official agency blogs and social media sites. Develops and implement content standards and branding for official BLM content appearing on third party sites. Develops content for coordinated communications campaigns incorporating social media.

    Occasional travel - Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and training events.
