The Electrician is assigned to Engineering Service, Electrical Section at the Durham VA Health Care System. The primary purpose of the position is to maintain electrical equipment and systems. He/she will be assigned a wide variety of duties of a journeyman electrician involving installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures and fire alarm systems.Learn more about this agency
ResponsibilitiesInstalls, modifies, repairs, and troubleshoots electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and distribution lines used to supply a wide range of voltage frequency requirements.
Complete task from building plans, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
Determines installations and repairs including such things as: the types, sizes, gauges, and lay out of conduct, wiring, couplings, fittings, relays controls, and distribution panels, and other electrical devices used in a variety of complete electrical systems and the best methods of installation and repair.
Responsible for safe and proper operation of systems and equipment in compliance with the National Electrical Code.
Completes installations, modifications and repairs; and toads and tests systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work.
Maintains and repairs all electrical equipment including transformers, feeders, motors, generators, starters, overload and over current protectors and controllers.
Inspects the electrical work performed by others and document discrepancies.
