Bayou Sorrel Lock is located about 35 miles out of Baton Rouge towards Plaquemine. LA on Hwy 1 to LA 75. It is about 15 miles from Plaquemine, LA on LA 75 to the Lock. It is a remote area and does not have public transportation. The nearest place to live would be located in the Plaquemine area. The lock is located about 90 miles from New Orleans and about 35 miles from Morgan City, LA.

This position will be filled under the Department of Defense Direct Hire Authority for Certain Competitive Service Positions under 5 U.S.C. Section, 9905.
Inland Marine Transportation System (IMTS) Lock and Dam Operator Training and Certification Program:
-Employees participate in a formalized training and development program for Lock and Dam Operators involving on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and related correspondence courses.
-Trainee positions afford the opportunity for career progression to the full performance level (WY-08) after successful completion of training and certification requirements.
-Certification is not a condition of employment. However, failing to meet certification requirements could result in adverse consequences.
-IMTS-Certified LDOs must successfully complete refresher training, as required, to maintain certification.
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
