    Summary

    The Gainesville VA Medical Center is recruiting Oncology Registered Nurses to join our dynamic team of highly specialized nurses in the care of general medicine and oncology. The Oncology Registered Nurse will be assigned to the 4-West Medical Oncology Unit at the Gainesville VA Medical Center, located in sunny Florida.     Responsibilities

    Major Duties:

    • Delivers oncology nursing care to patients undergoing treatment for oncological and hematological diseases
    • Provides the safe delivery of IV chemotherapeutic medications, parental chemotherapy, biotherapy and hormonal therapy
    • Provides for the safe delivery of supportive infusion therapy of drugs and blood products
    • Responsible for the maintenance of vascular access devices and for the proper use of infusion pumps
    • Serves a key role in assessing and managing the patients pain control and palliative care plans
    • Provides both team and individualized patient and family care
    • Uses professional judgment and critical thinking in the delivery of care in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures, and consistent with the plan of care
    • Monitors patients, interprets data, recognizes abnormalities and intervenes with appropriate nursing measures
    • Performs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of nursing care for patients
    • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate positive patient care outcomes
    • Recognizes emergency situations and demonstrates effective actions
    • Accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade and step
    • Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing patient's plan of care, provides supervision and guidance and demonstrates methods as necessary to correct deviation from established standards
    • Successful completion of chemotherapy/immunotherapy hospital sponsored course and competency is required within six months of hire
    Work Schedule: 12 hr. day 0730 - 2000 & 12 hr. night shift 1930 - 0800 with occasional rotation to other hours as required to meet patient care needs; every other weekend required (rotating weekends)
