    The New Mexico VA Health Care System is looking for an Orthotist/Prosthetist to join their team! This position functions primarily in the Orthotic-Prosthetic Laboratory Section of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service. The Orthotist/Prosthetist provides the appropriate orthotic and/or prosthetic devices and treatment.

    Duties of the position include but are not limited to:

    • Performing a comprehensive assessment of the patient to obtain an understanding of the patients' orthotic/prosthetic needs
    • Creating a comprehensive orthotic/prosthetic treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient
    • Performing the necessary procedures to independently and without direct supervision deliver the appropriate orthotic/prosthetic services, which may include fabrication of the orthosis/prosthesis
    • Providing continuing patient care and periodic evaluation to assure/maintain/document optimal fit and function of the orthosis/prosthesis
    • Complying with policies, procedures and regulations regarding human resource management, physical environment management, business/financial management and organizational management
    • Participating in personal and professional development through continuing education, training, research and organizational affiliations
    In addition to the duties listed above, the work requires:
    • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, body mechanics, the application and function of orthoses and/or prostheses, and of the materials and technology available for use in, and fabrication of, such devices
    • Skill in the use of tools, materials, and specialized equipment
    • The ability to deal effectively with patients and their problems and to work with other members of the medical team

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
