    Summary

    This is announcement is to establish an Advance Medical Support Assistant applicant pool.

    Positions are located within various services at the New Mexico VA Health Care System and supported catchment areas. Position requires interacting with both internal and external customers; establishing/maintaining medical outpatient/inpatient charts; obtaining medical information from patients; coordinate information/actions related to patient care/services; and scheduling appointments.

    Responsibilities

    The Advance Medical Support Assistant; coordinates with patient care team, reviews clinic utilization, monitors clinic setup closely to effectively support needs of the clinic. Participate in team huddles/meetings to manage/plan patient care; set priorities and deadlines, adjust the flow/sequencing of work to meet team and patient needs; maintains electronic records.

    Typical duties include but are not limited to:

    • Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults
    • Entering no-show information
    • Monitoring the electronic wait list
    • Preparing for clinic visits
    • Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility
    • Ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit
    • Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information
    • Processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals
    • Performing basic eligibility, co-pays and pre-authorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.).
