    This position is located in the General Accounting and Reporting (GAR), Office of Finance and Accounting (OF&A), Smithsonian Institution.  The employee serves as the subject matter expert for managing advanced tax and accounting requirements associated primarily with resolving complex tax issues and completing Smithsonian tax returns with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

    • Prepares and coordinates the timely filing of all required IRS forms (i.e., form 990, 990-T, 1120, etc.).
    • Documents all tax positions taken by the Smithsonian.
    • Prepares tax footnote and provides analysis of taxable income for the annual audit.
    • Prior to filing forms, coordinates rigorous levels of review by an external accounting firm, Institution management, and the Board of Regents.
    • Prepares and validates financial reports for net asset reports, various US Federal reports, and contributions and inter-unit transactions.
