EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will be managing and directing day to day work of the Academy.
Typical assignments include:
- Coordinating program efforts with other United States Fire Administration Divisions, internal activities, and/or with other agencies including fire fighter recruits to higher level officials including Cabinet-level appointees, Senators and Representatives.
- Developing Academy programs and procedures; with primary responsibility for ensuring intra agency program coordination.
- Participating actively in both the short- and long-range planning activities of the National Fire Academy.
- Overseeing organizational personnel matters, such as position reviews, staffing reassignments, employee performance system and other actions.
- Working with other Federal, state, local and tribal governments and international partners to leverage resources, minimize duplication of efforts, and maximize the impact of the Academy’s programs.
25% or less - Occasional non-emergency travel may be required. Travel up to 25% is required for this position.
