    This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Office of International Affairs and Seafood Inspection (OIASI), with two vacancies in Silver Spring, MD and Pascagoula,MS.

    Responsibilities

    As a Veterinary Medical Officer, you will perform the following duties:

    • Serves as a veterinarian in support of the NOAA Fisheries Seafood Inspection Program in the Office of International Affairs and Seafood Inspection.
    • Provides certification of regulatory compliance on exported fishery product shipments for receiving countries that require a U.S. government-employed veterinarian, including inspecting products and documents; and making determinations for approval.
    • Serves as a technical expert on aquatic animal health and seafood safety for episodic events such as oil spills and fish disease events.
    • Provides guidance to NOAA and other government affiliates regarding marine aquaculture fish health maintenance; biosecurity; disease and parasite control; and aquatic animal health issues relating to the export of seafood products and participation in international negotiations.
    • Evaluates chemical and microbial analysis results to provide certifications, attestations and support regulating export of seafood, marine animals and fisheries by-products; develops/modifies plans for federal interagency aquatic animal health activities and actions; ensures compliance with relevant veterinary regulations and laws.

    NOTE: These duties are described at the full performance level of the ZP-4, the ZP-3 is developmental leading to such performance.
