    This position (Registered Nurse - Dialysis) is located in the Name of Service at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System - West Los Angeles Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. The RN will report directly to the Nurse Manager for Dialysis and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing direct patient care. This nurse possesses specialized knowledge and skills regarding the treatment of patients with acute and chronic renal failure in both the inpatient and outpatient settings .He/she possesses the ability to provide both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Utilize the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate, and deliver nursing care for patients
    • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in a self-directed manner
    • Adhere to establish policies for standards of care and standards of practice
    • Evaluate the plan of care and patient outcomes and adjust the plan of care to meet patient needs
    • Function within established policies and guidelines; demonstrate the ability to work efficiently and effectively; and develop sound relationships with patients, their caregivers, and other professionals and supportive personnel who provide or support patient care
    • Act to ensure patient and employee safety
    • Participate in performance improvement activities and regulatory/accreditation survey activities
    • Interpret the philosophy and goals of Nursing Service to others in the work setting
    • Perform clinical review of medical records and summarize findings to facilitate additional review
    • Aggregate data that is complied and analyzed for presentation to senior leadership and program directors
    • Deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies
    • Demonstrate integration of bio-psychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to patients with basic or complex needs
    • Demonstrate proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning
    • Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others
    • Demonstrate performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of patients
    DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

    Work Schedule: Monday to Saturday; 10 Hour Day Shift, Day/Evening depending on patient care needs (On Call rotation to include weekends and holiday)
