    The registered nurse (staff nurse) is directly responsible to the designated manager in the assigned Medical/Surgical area; the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements.

    The registered nurse possesses basic knowledge and skills to apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others. As an entry level position, the nurse is committed to continued professional development. Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.

    Work Schedule: 72-80 hours pay period; various tours
    *This announcement will be used to fill both part-time (36 hours) and full-time (40 hours) positions.

    Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): May or may not be authorized
    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position, you are encouraged to apply for this award program and must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VA Policy 1021. Employees must apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services team. If selected, the local HR POC will provide the EDRP contact information for application materials and procedures.
