A Ramp Manager (GS-05 Range Technician) ensures ramp operations are conducted in a safe manner, including aircraft start up, taxiing, parking, retardant mixing and loading. Helps to maintain the air tanker base building, retardant trailers, facilities, vehicles and equipment. Performs various aviation and ground support activities that relate specifically to tanker and retardant operations, such as servicing and operating batch mixers, tanks, and related components including pumps, valves, and hoses. Mixes, stores, inspects, tests, and delivers fire retardants to various specifications.
A Ramp Manager (GS-06 Range Technician) performs the duties of a Single Engine Air Tanker Manager on a relief basis. Ensures ramp operations are conducted in a safe manner, including parking, loading and movement around aircraft. Performs various aviation and ground support activities that relate specifically to tanker and retardant operations, such as servicing and operating batch mixes, tanks, and related components including pumps, valves and hoses. Mixes, stores, inspects, tests and delivers fire retardants to various specifications. Utilizes computers to compile data for daily summaries and reports. Maintains air base grounds, facilities, vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/TESTING: Medical examination is required. The position requires periodic movement and long irregular hours. Lifting and carrying equipment and materials is required.
To qualify for a GS-05, you must meet at least one of the following:
- 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-04 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include experience working around aircraft performing duties such as aircraft start-up, taxiing, and parking.; OR
- successful completion of a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with either: 1. a major study in forestry, range management or agriculture; or a subject matter field directly related to the position; OR 2. at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine biology and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours of mathematics is creditable. The level of the course work must have been equivalent to at least the junior- and senior-year levels of a baccalaureate program; OR
- a combination of education and specialized work experience described above.
To qualify for a GS-06, you must meet at least one of the following:
- 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 level duties. Examples of specialized work experience include experience working with aircraft and ramp operations such as aircraft start up, taxiing, parking, and loading. Experience should include lead responsibilties performing work associated with aircraft.; OR
- 1 year of graduate level education directly related to the position. OR
- a combination of education and experience that is directly related to the work of the position
