Serves as the Unit Supervisor at the SWA CMO. Incumbent is responsible for the direction of assigned personnel. Assures compliance with the minimum level of safety requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations. Oversees the development of the office work program for the Unit in terms of kinds of inspections, location and frequency. Ensures that all certification and surveillance work functions are performed in accordance with current agency policy and procedures. Plans work to be accomplished, set priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work by subordinates. Effects coordination and liaison with other FAA personnel or military or civil agencies on matters affecting aviation operations and maintenance activities. Notifies the CMO manager when there is evidence of adverse trends developing, which may indicate deterioration in operations, equipment, facilities, qualifications, and/or training or personnel. Works with the office manager to ensure that a mode EEO program is in place. Performs additional duties as assigned.

AND In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants for the FV-J level must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression (FG-13 or Pay Band I), as an Aviation Safety Inspector Air Carrier Ops, 1825.
Examples of Specialized Experience include:
* Exercising certificate authority for flight operations over one or more air carriers that collectively employ a fleet of large aircraft powered by turbine or piston engines.
* Serving as the principal contact with, and having responsibility for the certification, inspection, and surveillance of the flight operations of a group of aviation organizations.
* Continuously monitoring activities of organizations to determine whether they are following authorized programs; and evaluating proposals to change programs.
* Conducting initial certification and periodic flight checks of airmen operating large multiengined aircraft using advanced instrument flight techniques.
