Recent Graduates who have completed a qualifying degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution or technical education program within the preceding two years of the announcement closing date (the two years begins on the date all course requirements are met). At the entry level of this position, you will:
Gain working knowledge of the processes, procedures, and requirements for maintaining hardware and software systems in a variety of operating system environments, and how to install server upgrades.
Learn how to monitor performance and functionality of systems required to support organizational objectives.
Apply basic information security policies, principles, and practices to identify vulnerabilities.
Communicate information about elements of system changes to costumers, stakeholders and partners.
Participate in the management of one or more elements of IT contracts in accordance with contract terms, conditions, and specifications in terms of cost, quality, quantity and schedule.

You need a degree or experience as described below to qualify for this position.
In addition to the educational or experience requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-05 level defined as assisting senior staff in implementing hardware and/or software upgrades or replacement; assisting in installing and maintaining hardware and/or software. - OR 1 full year of graduate level education; or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition) degree in the academic discipline as described below.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
1. Skill in researching specifications to acquire new IT systems and software.
2. Ability to learn how to monitor system performance, and install software, hardware, updates and enhancements.
3. Knowledge of information technology operating systems, database systems, hardware, local area networks, and software applications.
4. Skill in oral communications to participate on workgroups or committees involving systems administration issues or changes.
5. Skill in written communications to prepare systems documentation and reports.
6. Ability to learn contract management sufficient to oversee portions of IT contracts in accordance with terms, conditions, and specifications.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You must possess either a bachelor’s degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks OR demonstrate IT-related experience demonstrating each of the 4 competencies below, the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training as appropriate.
