    Responsibilities

    This position is located in the Office of Infrastructure Engineering and Operations (IEO), Infrastructure Services Division, Communications Services Branch. The Communication Services Branch (CSB) is responsible for architecting, designing, implementing, and operating USPTO’s network, security (firewalls, PKI and HSPD-12), and wireless and unified communication (voice, video, and collaboration) infrastructure. CSB provides the analysis, final engineering designs for the converged network infrastructure of voice, video, and data, quality of service (QOS), data integration, enterprise monitoring, secure remote access capabilities, and C&A remediation for all network communications including the USPTO campus (PTOnet).

    This position serves as the Chief of the Communication Services Branch and is the senior technical expert for the engineering and operation of the production voice, video, and data communication systems.

    The individual selected for this position will be responsible for:

    • Planning, directing, and managing the activities of the Branch, establishing long and short range goals, and determining the resources required to accomplish the functions assigned to the branch.
    • Serving as the senior technical expert for the engineering and operation of the production voice, video, and data communication systems, providing senior leadership, and overseeing a wide range of network hardware and software related activities.
    • Managing the life cycle of the USPTO network infrastructure, property accountability, validation and verification of software and licenses, remote access usage, and network hardware/software requests.
    • Recommending, evaluating, approving and/or procuring new/leading edge telecommunications technologies to support business requirements.
