    Responsibilities

    The primary worksite for this open position will be at the Austin Outpatient Clinic campus; however, travel to other system facilities (Temple, Waco, CBOC's, etc.) may be needed to accomplish the duties and responsibilities in this department.

    The Nurse Educator/Consultant will be responsible and accountable for guiding, directing, and overseeing the education of VA staff. The Educator/Consultant is primarily responsible for development and presentation of education programs for all levels of nursing staff, individually and in groups, in both classroom and clinical environments; for orientation of new employees, including evaluation of their individual progress in the orientation process; and for developing and implementing a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies. The Educator/Consultant will work collaboratively with physicians, leadership, and other healthcare professionals across the medical center in the development and implementation of facility-wide educational programs and initiatives.

    The incumbent will play a pivotal role in the translation of best practices to current nursing staff and potentially to nursing students seeking clinical experiences within our facility. The incumbent will actively participate in workshop/continuing education programs designed for career advancement. The Educator/Consultant must demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to effectively implement clinical instruction and staff development programs in support of an expanding nursing workforce. The Educator is responsible and accountable to the Supervisor of Nursing Education.

    Work Schedule: The primary tour of duty is 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday; however, extended hours or changes in tour of duty may be needed intermittently to accomplish educational duties and responsibilities. Rotating tours of duty may include days, weekends, and/or extended hours.
