The encumbant will serve as the Director of the Writing Center. This position will also provide leadership for Writing Center operations and administration. The Director will promote innovation, synergy, and contribute to future clear communication initiatives. Duties include supervision of contracted or faculty writing consultants during daytime and evening hours. The Director will present/sponsor workshops and assist students to enhance effective communication across a diverse, multi-disciplinary curriculum. Other duties include teaching undergraduate courses as directed, including reading enhancement and writing courses, and providing individual writing consultations, and conducting research and service to the Academy.

QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The appointment requires an earned doctorate in communication, composition, rhetoric, linguistics, literacy theory, English, or related field. Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the personal attributes of integrity, industry, cooperation, initiative, and breadth of intellectual interests. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen.
ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Communication, Composition, Rhetoric, Linguistics, Literacy Theory, English, or a related field.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience with Writing Program Administration or university wide writing program. An ideal candidate will have experience working with ESL, international students, or experience working in international settings. The Director must collaborate effectively with diverse departments spanning a wide range of technical and non-technical disciplines. The Director will assist in implementing writing-enriched courses and contribute to the development of a strategic clear communication plan, and conduct Writing Center assessment.
Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the college level for at least 5 years. The person selected must be qualified to teach in one of the faculty academic departments. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in writing for STEM disciplines, multimodal composition or technical composition at the college level. Evidence of recent publications and presentations in professional venues that demonstrate an ongoing scholarly and/or creative agenda. Demonstrated contributions to Writing Across the Curriculum.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written), motivation, interpersonal skills, compassion, and ability to work with students possessing a wide range of backgrounds and academic abilities. Demonstrated record of building cooperation and collaboration across students and faculty. The Director must plan and implement writing support focused events and initiatives for students and faculty.
Preferred Position Qualifications include: Supervisory experience. Writing Center assessment experience. Experience working with ESL and/or international student writing programs.
