The successful candidate will serve as a senior inspector to conduct radiation protection inspections of operating light water reactor facilities, in accordance with the NRC inspection manual; inspections of decommissioning reactor and/or materials facilities and Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations (ISFSI). You may also perform and coordinate radiological and environmental protection licensing of varied facilities using byproduct, source and/or special nuclear materials. Investigates and evaluates the most difficult occurrences with radiological safety significance.

In addition to the basic education requirements, to qualify for this position you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of the NRC inspection program and policies, planning and conducting inspections of operating reactor facilities, decommissioning reactor and/or materials facilities including inspections of Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations (ISFSI), where radioactive materials was used.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Candidates must have a thorough understanding of the theories, principles, and practices in the general field of health physics, evidenced by possession of a bachelor's degree in a natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics, including calculus or equivalent, OR completion of the courses listed above, plus appropriate experience or other education; OR certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics.
