EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In the position General Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and utilizing capital program management software (CPMS) to manage construction projects through the use of these systems, tools, software, to track the progression and understand the degree and complexity of implementation of capital investments. Typical duties include:
- Providing contract oversight or project management for construction and maintenance projects.
- Performing construction administration and inspection work, including informing management on the overall progress, proposed contract modifications, validity of claims, analysis of proposals, and assessment of contract time extensions,
- Designing, coordinating, and executing complete conventional projects that require the independent adaptation of a general fund of background data and information, and interpretation and use of precedents; exercise ingenuity and creative thinking in devising new ways to accomplish objectives, and in adapting existing equipment or techniques to new ones; and exercise judgment in making sound engineering compromises and decisions when confronted with complex problems.
- Providing contract oversight and/or project management for construction and maintenance projects.
