    Responsibilities

    • Provide supervision and leadership of up to 3 Branch Chiefs, 2 Deputy Directors, and senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) staff.
    • Determine EO/IR sensor system and signal and image processing research and development needs in coordination with the branch chiefs responsible for both manned and unmanned, fixed and rotary wing applications.
    • Development and refinement of Aviation EO/IR Sensor System testing methods and the development of testing procedures for new sensor systems and modalities.
    • Determine the schedule and resource (facilities, personnel and financial) needs for mission and customer research, development, engineering and testing projects to include support for transitioned technology to Army customers.
    • Oversee NV Airfield Detachment for testing and evaluating mission and customer aerial sensors. Lead maintenance, safety and certification requirements for modified rotary wing and fixed wing, manned and unmanned aircraft to include associated pilots.
    • Market external customers to obtain funding for EO/IR Aviation Sensor System research, development, evaluation and testing.
    • Serve as leader and spokesperson for Aviation EO/IR Sensor System technology to the larger Army community. Serve as SME in these areas as required to brief NVESD program objectives and to provide critical expertise to Senior Army Leaders as required.
