- Manages a staff of economists who prepare economic analyses associated with immigration regulations.
- Serves as an expert advisor and technical authority on regulatory economics and complex and precedent setting economic policy and program issues, develops policies, strategies, and plans for economics, and economic development, programs/projects for agency-wide application.
- Provides specialized expertise to ICE program offices and directorates.
- Participates in the development of strategies, plans, program guidance, and dissemination of research results for Agency-wide application and incorporation into economic programs.
- Contributes to formulating Agency positions on research issues, for presentation to Congress, representatives of universities, foundations, and task forces.

Basic Educational Requirements
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Individual Occupational Requirements (IORs), for the Economist, 0110 series are as follows:
Degree: A degree (Bachelors or higher) in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
Combination of education and experience: A combination of courses equivalent to a major in economics as described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include:
1. Individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation.
2. Supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or
3. Teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instructions in economics subjects and one of the following: (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE ABOVE BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized Experience: GS-15: Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service that included experience such as: developing and applying new economic techniques and methodologies to create new economic guidelines; drafting cost-benefit analyses for regulations; writing policies and standards for agency-wide economic programs and activities; advising leadership on matters related to the regulatory impact analysis of regulations; acting as technical authority on complex and precedent-setting policy and agency wide national and international issues; developing strategies, and long range planning for economics, and economic development, programs/projects for agency-wide application.
