    Summary

    All work activities, both administrative in nature and clinical, will be in conformance with the Veterans Health Administration (VA), Joint Commission, and other standards as applicable that guide that provider's practice.

    Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay).

    Responsibilities

    The physician is responsible for managing the full spectrum of surgical care responsibilities including admission from an outpatient site, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, consultation for patients presenting with gynecologic complaints and diseases and the performance of invasive and surgical procedures. To manage the surgical care patients, the following will be necessary: ordering appropriate lab work, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, requesting consultations to specialty services, providing both office-based and operating room invasive procedures.

    Performs the following tasks during the clinic visit operating room and post-surgical inpatient care:
    Maintains a close working relationship with the General Surgery team and coordinates care with that team.

    Maintains a close working relationship with the Women's Health Clinic team and coordinates female urologic are with that team
    Reviews information from outside providers
    Conducts history and physical exam
    Assesses patient's clinical condition
    Reviews test and procedure results
    Completes patient referrals in CPRS
    Manages patient's medication (including medicine reconciliation)
    Completes view alerts
    Follows-up on patient-related information (test and procedure results, consults and medications)
    Calls patients and family on the telephone
    Discusses cases with consultants
    Reviews and acts on non-VA medical records
    Completes required forms/paperwork
    Formulates treatment and surgical care plans
    Refers patients with surgical care plans to the IMPACT team.
    Supervises and trains medical students, residents and other learners including Fellows
    .
    When surgery is planned, performs required intraoperative tasks as set forth in VA and Joint Commission standards and requirements (to include immediate pre-operative assessment, time out, completion of attending note, immediate post op note, operation report, and other required CPRS entries. All entries will be made within required timeframes.

    Ensures that the supervision of surgical residents or Fellows is appropriate and meets VA standards. .
    Collaborates with the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and surgical ward teams, surgical physician assistants and surgical residents to ensure patient receives the proper inpatient care.
