The Assistant Auditor General plans and directs all Air Force auditing operations in the broad acquisition, logistics, and financial areas. Responsible for ensuring that all audit efforts directed or accomplished within the directorate are planned, executed, and reported in accordance with the Government Auditing Standards published by the Comptroller General of the United States. Incumbent maintains cognizance of and adherence to all applicable internal audit guidance from the Office of Management and Budget, Department of Defense, DoD Inspector General, and the Air Force Develops and implements directorate policies and procedures that carry out and institutionalize AFAA goals, priorities, and values. Analyzes Congressional concerns, DoD plans, and Air Force programs in order to establish prioritized long- and short-range audit plans that direct audit resource to the areas of greatest need, and maintains the capability to provide rapid and effective response to special audit requests from senior Air Force leaders.

Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 permits a qualified individual to be given an initial appointment into the Senior Executive Service (SES) within the Department of Defense (DoD) without being subject to the certification of Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ) by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Qualifications Review Board (QRB).
A career SES appointment made under this authority does not guarantee that you will be eligible to transfer to another career SES appointment outside of the DoD without the need for you to compete. Other Federal agencies may require you to submit ECQs to OPM's QRB prior to your appointment in that agency.

Candidates will be evaluated for this position by a screening panel composed of a diverse mix of senior executives and/or general officers selected for organizational and/or functional backgrounds relevant to this position. The panel discusses each application and reaches consensus on the resume packages demonstrating a high degree of the executive core qualifications and technical competencies. Normally, only those applicants whose packages demonstrate a mastery of ECQs and technical competencies are selected for interviews. Post interview, the panel will then make a recommendation of those Best Qualified candidates who should be referred to the selecting official, in priority order. Final selection is contingent upon the Air Force Executive Resources Board and the Under SecAF,
