    Summary

    You will serve as a Staff Officer for the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). As such, you will be responsible for conducting, managing and overseeing the U.S. Avian Influenza Compartmentalization program.

    Responsibilities

    • The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
    • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Receives, reviews, and approves/denies applications from primary breeding companies to become a compartment and add/remove compartment components.
    • Receives, reviews, and approves/denies auditor applications to become a certified auditor, ensuring that each applicant?s application is complete and factual.
    • Plans, organizes and facilitates official NPIP auditor training courses, working with the poultry industry to obtain approval to tour facilities such as: hatcheries, egg depots, feed mills and farms.
    • Explains and administers the compartmentalization regulations found in 9-CFR and the NPIP Program Standards to auditors, poultry industry, and federal colleagues.
    • Advises, consults, and maintains relationships with State poultry officials through personal contacts and participation in State, Regional, and National meetings.
    • Provides authoritative technical support in the collection, assembly, and analysis of records pertaining to biosecurity audits, flock and hatchery classifications, and related poultry improvement work
    • Assists the senior coordinator and NPIP staff in conducting epidemiological investigations of NPIP disease outbreaks when multiple states are involved.
    • Provides leadership in the collection, assembly, and analysis of records pertaining to the blood testing, flock and hatchery classification, and related poultry improvement work on a national basis.
    • Works with the Sr. Coordinator and NPIP staff in the planning, organizing, and conducting of the Biennial National Plan Conference and General Conference Committee meetings of the NPIP.
