    Summary

    The incumbent practices as an RN in the outpatient clinic setting at the Rocky Mountain Regional Medical Center, Pain Service. The RN will provide outpatient treatment for patients with chronic and acute pain management needs, working with a multidisciplinary team (physician, psychologist, social worker, licensed practical nurse, pharmacist).

    Responsibilities

    The Nurse for the Outpatient Pain clinic:

    • Applies the nursing process to systems or processes to improve care;
    • Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care;
    • Supports and enhances client self-determination;
    • Serves as a resource for clients and staff in resolving ethical issues;
    • Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues taking appropriate action;
    • Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in areas of practice;
    • Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance;
    • Evaluates practice of self and others using professional standards, relevant statutes, and regulations, and takes action to improve performance;
    • Uses the group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems;
    • Educates colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor and/or mentor;
    • Initiates/participates in quality improvement active
    • Uses a body of research to validate and/or change work group practice;
    Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

    1. Triage and coordinate patient flow if patient requires provider level visit
    2. Ensure communication with patients on any tests, studies, or referrals ordered by provider
    3. Educate patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration, with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness based on the patient's goals
    4. Check patient vitals and administer injections, as appropriate
    5. Assist multidisciplinary team with all processes related to patient care
    6. Demonstrate competency to performance procedures and use equipment competently in the care of patients undergoing procedures
    7. Use critical thinking skills to assess and evaluate patient's physical, psychosocial and emotional needs
    8. Develop and implement individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care
    9. Participate in activities that promote safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
    10. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients family members, visitors, and members of the interdisciplinary team
    11. Participate in professional development and process improvement activities
    12. Performs other departmental duties as assigned
