    Summary

    The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.

    As an Individual Taxpayer Advisory Specialist (ITAS) you will:

    • Assist and advise taxpayers on a wide-range of IRS tax forms, notices and issues.
    • Research and respond to a variety of tax law questions based on customer inquiry.
    • Research tax issues and properly adjust taxpayers' accounts.
    • Interact with the general public, taxpayers and/or their representatives, tax practitioners and accountants, via face-to-face, telephonically and/or in writing.
    • Prepare and file tax returns for customers who meet specific criteria.
    • Review forms and notices and advise customers based on the information ascertained in those forms.
      This is a bi-lingual position. Applicants will be required to demonstrate proficiency in (User Enter Language).


    If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
